I put Lari Don on here because she wrote this book about girl champs and I thought the blurb from the back of the book was really funny. It said:
Greedy giants, unjust emperors, shape-shifting demons and the heroines who deal with them. From China and Japan, the Americas, Europe and Africa, this collection of traditional tales shows girls who win the day whether by cleverness, courage, kindness or strength.
Who needs a handsome prince?
The Japanese legend was about a girl called Tooyo who lived with her father, who was a doctor type person. Her father is imprisoned when he can't help a guy who is ill, he felt he was slowly drifting in water. After some adventures, Tokoyo saved the guy and her dad.
There was a Greek legend, a French folktale, an Indian myth, a Scottish folktale and lots more.
